Peaceful Holiday Weekend

"Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day
is the rest we take between two deep breaths."
Etty Hillesum

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend and the end of summer. Well it is the end for some of you but today it was about 105 here. We do not see fall here in So. California until the end of October. We did relax and have a cook out one day but mostly I spent stitching. I can't show you one piece that I was happy to finish the stitching part (it was mostly black and I got a little tired of it) it is for a exchange.

Sunday evening a friend who volunteers at the Hollywood Bowl had 2 tickets and asked me to go with her. At the end of the season they give them two as a thank you. It is usually for the movie night. This year it was Movie Trivia hosted by Alex Trebek from Jeaopardy. He looked so handsome in his white dinner jacket.  When we arrived we were each given three glow sticks in red, green and blue. Alex would give us clues about the next film clip and they would give us three choices on the screen each in a different color. We would hold up the glow stick to the answer we thought was right. It was so pretty to see thousands of glow sticks. After they would show a clip from the movie and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra would play the music to the exact beat as the movie. It really was a delightful evening. If you are not familiar with the Hollywood Bowl, it is hidden in the hills of Hollywood. Everyone comes with a picnic dinner with wine and such and enjoys a concert or performer under the stars.

Here is the bowl before it started.

This shows how is hidden the hills.

As we were waiting for it to start the sky got a little dark and suddenly this rainbow appeared.

In October I will be attending the Stitching Retreat in New Hampshire. I am trying to make a set of Halloween stitching accessories to take with me. This is all I have stitched so far.

I am trying to make a biscornu, scissor fob, and may be a needle book. I have the cutest new pair of scissors to make a fob for. I will show you those when I get the fob done. Meantime I have another exchange piece to finish.

Have you all been busy packing away all your white shoes, purses and pants now that Labor Day is over. Being born in Virginia from a very eastern family I grew up with no white after Labor Day. Here in California it is mostly unheard of. Especially since we are still in the 100 degrees and will be for awhile. Do you stop wearing white now?

Always keep love in your stitches,
Teresa

No white in Alabama even thought it will be hot as blue blazes for many many days still. I have actually gone barefoot at Thanksgiving if that is a clue how long it stays hot. Cannot wait to see your pieces in Oct.

Glad you had a relaxing Labor Day. I like the no drama holidays myself.

Here, no white after Labor Day either, but people break the rule.

I am one reader shy of 100 readers. So very soon there will be a giveaway!!!!!!

Hello Teresa!

I love the halloween set you are making! I definitely think you should go that extra step and do the needlebook too! It will be worth it in the end and you will be glad you did it.

I grew up in VA myself and we did the whole no wearing white thing too.

I hope you have fun attending that Stitching Retreat!

As an outsider, could you please tell me a little bit about Labor Day? I've seen it celebrated on lots of blogs, but I'm just not sure what it's for.
I love your Halloween stitching, can't wait to see more. I think using glowsticks is a wonderful idea! I hope you had a great time.
Best wishes.

The biscornu will be adorable. And Hollywood Bowl is cool. How many questions did you know?

White after Labor Day -- my grandma held fast to the rule but I've not met anyone else since.

Sounds like a relaxing and fun weekend.

As for white - I don't wear a lot due to issues of keeping it clean - things always find there way onto my white clothes. After Labor Day, no bright summer whites, but winter whites are okay with me.

Amazing that your temperatures are so hot, Teresa!! We've plummeted into the 60's here in PA this week with lots of rain!

Looks like a great time at the Hollywood Bowl. I would have loved a trivia night myself :)

Your Halloween kitties are so cute!

I hardly ever wear white to be honest. I'm more of a jeans and t shirt kind of girl, lol. Glad you got the stitching part finished, and I can't wait to see your fob and biscornu made up.
